Time Machine Essay Introduction

Time Machine Essay Introduction

Introduction
This essay explains the history of the film Alien and where the ideas for creating the creature came from, what future influences it has had and what past speculation surrounds aliens. To understand where the initial idea for creating the alien came from will be answered using the books; Alien: The Special Effects by Don Shay and Bill Norton and Dissecting Aliens: Terror in Space by John L. Flynn. The artist responsible for creating the designs for the creature and its design ideas will be discussed using the book; Giger’s Alien by H.R. Giger. The previous works by H.R. Giger before creating the alien creature design will be examined using the book; HR Giger’s Film Design by H.R. Giger. The alien itself has a Freudian connection to it that will be explained from the book; Aliens: the anthropology of science fiction by George Edgar Slusser. An online article by Ken Korczak on BlogEvolve.com has been useful for studying this Freudian connection with the alien creature from the film. This essay will start by explaining what the film Alien is about and then explains where the designs for it came from and the artist’s previous works. Then the Freudian connection will be discussed followed by the film’s future influences.
