Review on Belleville Rendez-Vous

Review on Belleville Rendez-Vous (2003)

Belleville Rendez-Vous

Written and directed by Sylvain Chomet this animated film consists of hardly any dialogue, in which it does well without it to describe whats happening throughout the film. Richard Corliss elaborates more on this in a review on Time.com. 'And don't worry that the film is French; it has hardly any dialogue. Doesn't need it. The gnarly imagery and the movie's understanding of the human impulse not just to survive but also to save others are eloquent enough.' (Corliss, 2003) With its lack of dialogue it makes up for it in its humor, as well as music and sound effects, as described more by Lisa Nesselson in a review. 'Helmer manages to meld the virtues of persistence, the faded glory of the music hall and Gaul's peculiar passion for the Tour de France into one cogent, funny package, tweaking the French penchant for frog legs and the North American tendency toward obesity along the way.' (Nesselson, 2003)
